Phitsanulok is a province in Thailand located in the lower northern part of the country, it is one of the seventy-six provinces of Thailand. It borders Sukhothai and Uttaradit on the north, Loei and Phetchabun to the east, and Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet to the south. In the northeast, it borders Laos. The name Phitsanulok when translated means 'Vishnu's heaven’ or ‘Vishnu's world'. The total area of the province amounts up to almost Eleven thousand square kilometres and the population of the province amounts to more than eight and a half million. Historical records state that the area of the province may not have been the home of the ancestors of present-day Thai people living in the area while the history of the province dates back as far as the eleventh century.
