What do you need to know about Tak?
Tak is a province located in the lower northern part of Thailand and is one of the seventy-seven provinces in the country. The neighbouring provinces surrounding Tak from the north in the clockwise direction are Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani and Kanchanaburi. The western edge of the province has a long boundary with Kayin State of Myanmar (Burma). The area of Tak was established even before the Sukhothai period and dates as far back as 2,000 years ago. Later, it became a part of the of the Sukhothai kingdom as a result of the battles led by Ramkhamhaeng the Great. One fourth of the population in Tak comprises of tribal people living on the hills, the tribes are Yao, Karen, Lahu, Hmong and Lisu. The province of Tak is fairly larger than most of the provinces in the country, stretching over a land area of 16,407 square kilometres and houses a population of 654,676 as per the records of the census conducted in 2018. The province contains within itself nine districts which are further divided into 63 subdistricts and 493 villages.
Few places of attraction in Tak
The province of Tak is mainly known for its historical heritages that they have managed to preserve. But it is not limited to that, as some places are unique to the province and you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the country. The most famous places in the province are mentioned below.
The museum is the most visited place in Tak, as it houses some of the most attractive and historical houses have been preserved including an old governor residence which was remodelled into the museum. The main attraction of the museum can be stated as the house itself in which it is placed. The age of the house easily goes back a hundred and fifty years, maybe even more and there are woodcarvings abundant in its vicinity. The house also features more open air windows than you can count and it is said that the King Bhumibol and Queen Sikrit stayed here at some point.
King Taksin Shrine
The shrine was originally built near the west bank of the Ping River at the Wat Doi Khao Kaeo, it was moved to its current location in 1947. This was at the same time when the Fine Arts Department of Thailand decided to get together for making a life-size statue of the Great King which was to be kept at a marble mondop built in Thai-style. The king is seen to sit with his sword on his lap and wearing his trademark pointed hat.

Despite its exciting locations and serene sceneries, the province of Tak typically follows a laid-back form of lifestyle. The prices of commodities needed for sustaining life in this province is significantly lower than most urban countries like the Americas. You will be assured to know that the cost of items like groceries is extremely cheap and even the properties in this province are affordable to the masses. The least that you have to spend in order to maintain a standard lifestyle in the province is around 26,000 Baht if you choose to rent a studio condo in the downtown area, if you are looking to live at a rented single house in the same location you would have to spend around 30,000 to 50,000 Baht a month depending on your lifestyle and the type of property.
How is the Tak real estate market?
The real estate market in Tak is flexible and suits the needs of both families and bachelors alike who are looking to settle down in the province. If you are looking to rent a property, you can find condos, townhouses and single houses to choose from. The rent for a one-bedroom studio condo is around 7,000 Baht if you choose to settle down in the downtown area or closer to amenities like the Northern College or the King Taksin Hospital. Condos with multiple bedrooms can be found in the heart of the city with the rent hiking to as much as 25,000 Baht. Townhouses are also available in the province with rent ranging from 8,000 Baht to 10,000 Baht again in the main area of the province. If you prefer to live in a detached house or single house on rent located in the downtown area, it would cost you around 20,000 to 30,000 Baht. The rent drops quite a bit if you move a little farther from the said locations, you can find a studio condo at a rent of 4,000 Baht and single houses and townhouses can be found at a rent of about 8,000 Baht and 10,000 to 18,000 Baht respectively.
What is the most popular type of property on sale in Tak and why?
If you are looking to buy your piece of property in Tak, the process is going to be a plain and simple task. Although most of the country is looking for villas to settle down, the condos in the province of Tak are attracting much more attention. You can get a one bedroom condo from a reputed developer at around 900,000 Baht if you are looking to settle down in the heart of the province, the prices of townhouses are somewhat similar and can be found at a price of around 700,000 Baht to 1,800,000 Baht at the same location. If you choose to settle down in a luxurious three-bedroom condo, it would be a little harder to find and the price shoots up a bit to around 1.5M to 2M Baht just on the sale price. Whereas a second-hand single house is more readily available in the province and the prices in the downtown area range from about 1,500,000 Baht to 30,000,000 Baht depending on the size of the property. If you choose to move away from the prime locations in the province the prices can be seen to drop expressively with studio condos available at a price of 600,000 Baht. Finding three-bedroom condos in the outskirts of the province can be a tedious job and the prices drop to as much as 1,800,000 Baht, prices of townhouses have also been seen to drop to as much as 1,000,000 Baht to 1,500,000 Baht on the sale price. Single houses on sale can also be found at lower prices from the downtown area with the sale price ranging from 1,500,000 to 15,000,000 Baht.
