Samut Songkhram is one of the seventy seven provinces of Thailand and is located in the central region of the country. The neighbouring provinces surrounding Samut Songkhram from the south in the clockwise direction are Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi and Samut Sakhon. The local name of the province is Mae Klong while the famous Siamese twins, Chang and Eng Bunker were born here on 11th May 1811. The province of Samut Songkhram is the smallest province in all of Thailand and the name when translated means ‘war ocean’. The province is located at the mouth of Mae Klong River up to the upper Gulf of Thailand or more famously known as the Bay of Bangkok. The original name for the area during the Ayutthaya period was “Suan Nok” which meant ‘outer garden’ when translated. Later, during the reign of King Taksin, the area was declared as a province and given its current name. The province overs the total land area of 417 square kilometres and houses within itself the population of 193,791 as per the records of the census conducted in 2018. There are three districts within the province of Samut Songkhram which are then further divided into 38 sub districts and 284 villages.

Amphawa Evening Floating Market
This market is located near a canal by the Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram. The market is open for visitors from Friday to Sunday from noon till evening and is known for its delicious menus among tourists. The community of the market received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Culture Heritage in the Honourable Mention Category in 2008.
Phra Bat Somdet Phra Phutthaloetlanaphalai Memorial Park
This park is a project in honour of King Rama II to commemorate his works in art and culture and is understood to be preserved as a national heritage site. King Rama II was also featured in the list of Thai people in UNESCO’s Anniversaries of Great Personalities and Historic Events. Another interesting fact about the place is that this was also the birthplace of King Rama II.
