Uttaradit lies in the upper northern portion of Thailand and is one of the seventy-seven provinces present in the country. The neighbouring provinces surrounding the province from the north in a clockwise direction would be, Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Phrae, and Nan. To the east, it borders Xaignabouli of Laos. The name means “port of the north” or “northern landing” when translated, this is because the province was the trade centre of the Nan River in the earlier years.
