Originating in the Phato District, the main river of the province is the Lang Suan river with an estimated length of the coastline to about a hundred and thirty-eight miles. The southern part of the current boundary of the province was originally a separate province named Lang Suan which was later incorporated into Chumphon during the year 1932.
