Bophut is the name of a large administrative district covering much of the NE of the island but colloquially it refers to the beach area centered at Fisherman’s Village, a stylish former fishing village featuring activities, accommodation & restaurants.The coconut palm fringed beach at Fisherman’s Village is backed stylish restaurants & boutique shops along the beach road. It’s a great place to wander around both day and especially the evening. This area caters more to couples, families and is a firm favorite of long stay foreign residents & locals alike. The beach area isn’t a place to go clubbing in the evening, it a place to enjoy sunsets with a nice cocktail at one of the many high quality seaside restaurants. The white sand beach beach is 2 kilometers long and great for lounging. 

GETTING THERE & AROUND 
From the airport, a private hire car is usually around 500-800 baht to Fisherman’s Village. Transportation time is 15 minutes. A bus service is also offered. From the ferry piers, a van or songtaew (truck with covered bench seating) can take you to your hotel for 100-150 baht. No advance booking is required. Travel time is about 25 minutes. While in Fisherman’s Village there are plenty of taxi drivers around and there fare is usually negotiated with the driver. A trip to Chaweng beach costs around 200-300 baht by taxi. The Fisherman’s Village area is fairly compact and easily walkable. It’s often a good idea to ask your hotel reception what average rates are to your destination to get a better sense of current prices. 

THINGS TO DO 

Fisherman’s Village is an ideal place to just relax and enjoy the beach and sea. Note that smoking is not allowed on the beach here.

A highlight of many visitors trip to Koh Samui is Fisherman’s Village Walking Street, the largest & most popular night market on Koh Samui. Encompassing both Fisherman’s Village main seaside road & The Wharf open air shopping complex it’s a must visit destination on Friday evenings.From 60 baht cocktails, 100 baht shirts, all sorts of nick nacks and locally produced items all interspersed with a huge variety of delectable food and and festive atmosphere make for a memorable night out. The market bring shoppers from all over the island.

There are also gyms  in the Bophut area a few kilometers from Fisherman’s Village. Samui Hillside Village and Elite Gym and Fitness are good options.For golfers there  Foothills Driving Range is located in Bophut, just off the ring road between Chaweng & Fisherman’s village, near the large Big-C Shopping Centre. Facilities include a 20 bay covered range of 250 meters in length, chipping green, putting green, bunker practice area, rental equipment and professional instruction. 
Santiburi Samui Country Club is a spectacular 18 hole course built high in the hills of the Mae Nam area and features breathtaking views of the Gulf of Thailand and nearby Koh Phangan island. The course has been thoughtfully built into it’s jungle and former coconut plantation landscape. Each hole is very different on this course and it can be challenging but is well worth the effort! It is also a stop on the PGA Asian Tour. Bophut & Fisherman’s Village also offer a wide range of spa’s and healthy activities such as yoga. Cooking classes are also available. Tripadvisor maintains a good list of the available options in the area as well as dining options. 

LIVING & LONG TERM STAYING IN BOPHUT


It's an ideal place for many people who want to live on the island. Fisherman’s village has the most of tourist accommodation & restaurants, the nearby Bophut Hills area has a great variety of long term rental accommodation and many long term foreign properties. 
The location is appreciated by many due to it being a beautiful quiet area between two of Koh Samui’s most popular beach destinations, Chaweng beach & Fisherman’s Village.
