Huai Khwang is a district in Bangkok and is one of the fifty districts that are present in the city. It is located at the central region and is surrounded by Chatuchak, Wang Thonglang, Bang Kapi, Suan Luang, Watthana, Ratchathewi, and Din Daeng as neighbouring districts from the north in the clockwise direction. The district was established earlier in 1973 but was a part of Phaya Thai at that moment, but was later rearranged to be a part of Bangkok in 1978 when the boundaries were adjusted. Later, in 1993, again a rearrangement of boundaries occurred creating the new Din Daeng district. The name when translated means “creek barricade” because the place was covered in creeks and wetlands in the past and thus, waterways had to be the main form of transport. The total land area that the district of Huai Khwang covers amounts to 15.033 square kilometres while housing a population of about 81,515 as per the records of the census that was conducted in 2017.
